IRRIGATION IN DAVAO DEL NORTE, STRENGTHENED

IRRIGATION IN DAVAO DEL NORTE, STRENGTHENED

A better, sustainable harvest for our agiculture sector is needed to support much of the local food requirement of the country. This is true especially in major food baskets of the country such as in Mindanao. Certainly, a good Irrigation and drainage system constitute as one of the foremost requirement for a much better yield especially for the local rice production and even export-grade bananas, where water requirement is high.

In the province of Davao del Norte, 2nd District Representative Anton F. Lagdameo, Jr., as part of his Barangayanihan Program in support to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s Food Security Program, recently poured in 30 Million Pesos from his country-wide development fund purposely to stengthen various irrigation projects. This project is implemented thru the local Irrigation Administration Office located in Carmen town headed by Engr. Alejandro L. Alberca-Irrigation Superintendent II.

Specifically, the project is focused on rehabilitating irrigation systems under the Lasang-Kipaliku-Liboganon River Systems which traverses through most of the low-lying irrigable lands of the towns of Carmen, Sto.Tomas and Braulio E. Dujali and which also functions as the major rice producer of the province if not region wise.

The project along with the 2 mini-backhoes regularly being lent by the Office of Cong. Anton to the barangays especially in Carmen where flooding is a frequent problem because of its topographical location, helped a lot in minimizing inundations of rivers and canals as well as reducing malaria/dengue cases in the locality.

Dr. Dominic Basalo, the Municipal Health Officer of Carmen, acknowledged the help given by Cong. Lagdameo on matters of drainage and irrigation system since diseases such as schistosomiases and dengue or even malaria can well thrive on murky waters where drainage is low.

The problem on flooding however, is an age-old predicament affecting not just the Province of Davao del Norte but also even the most urbanized cities of Davao and Metro Manila. It is complex and requires all stakeholders and developers for a united action. Factors such as denudation of forest, erotion and irresponsible waste disposal do much in this scenario. It is worthwhile to note however, the efforts of good leaders, intuitive and undaunted as they are, for other leaders and civic groups to follow.

CONG. LAGDAMEO ALLOCATES 200MILLION FOR ISING RIVER

CONG. LAGDAMEO ALLOCATES 200 MILLION PESOS FOR ISING RIVER MEGA PROJECT

A busy day usually boils into a productive, efficient public service for a promising leader. Cong. Anton F. Lagdameo, Jr. of the 2nd District of Davao del Norte this weekend made a big leap as he strive to achieve better services to his constituents.
Cong. Lagdameo led the recent turn-over activity and blessing of two (2) classroom building last Friday, August 14, 2009 in Mangalcal Elementary School, Barangay Mangalcal of Carmen Town, Davao del Norte donated by the A.O.Floirendo, Sr. Foundation (AOFF) wherein he also donated various vegetable seeds and a knapsack sprayer to the school.
Earlier in the day, Lagdameo graced the culmination activity of the 50th Araw ng Sto.Tomas where multitudes of people are in merriment to celebrate the momentous occasion and to which he presented to Mayor Max Estela the PhilHealth cards for his constituents. Afterwhich, he joined the TADECO management led by ANFLOCOR bigwigs Ricky and Vincent Floirendo in welcoming a Brunei Minister and entourage with Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap who is in the city to look for investment opportunities.
However, it was in Mangalcal Elementary School where Cong. Lagdameo has announced another of his big project in the District to the delight of the crowd mostly composed of school heads from DepEd Carmen District headed by its Supervisor Ms. Allen Guilaran and Barangay officials led by Mangalcal Brgy. Capt. Salaysay.
In a reply to Carmen Vice Mayor Abet Sarin’s direct submission of three (3) urgent resolutions of the municipality during the program, Cong. Lagdameo immediately was able to answer 2 of the mentioned problems. Lagdameo revealed that 200 Million Pesos is already being processed from the national coffer for the dredging and improvent of dikes along Ising River in reply to the town’s resolution requesting for 30 Million pesos for the same project. The requested water system in Barangay Taba was also answered as allocation for the same is currently on transit.
The 200 Million pesos Ising River Dredging Project is very timely and of primary importance indeed to answer the Flooding problem of the town which occasionally ravaged millions of farm products and destroyed properties if not endangered the lives of most residents thereby strengthening Food Production and Security. This would also boost the thrust of the incumbent administration of Carmen Municipal Mayor Mar Perandos to create a business hub within the poblacion as well as minimize Dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases with the expected free-flowing of water in and outside the area.
The people of Carmen was very much delighted indeed, of this recent developments and hopeful to have leaders such as the good, workhorse congressman to led them to even greater horizons.
